I think that Algernon is a big part of Charlie's life because they have both worked together. They are both a huge part of this experiment and they have become very good friends. Algernon and Charlie worked together to get out of that conference and they are room mates now. I think both of them really needed friends because they have changed so much in this experiment.
I think Algernon is such an important part of Charlie's life because of the fact that he underwent the same procedure as Charlie; technically being the only one in the same situation as him. Whatever happens to Algernon will most likely happen to Charlie, as Algernon had his surgery performed prior to Charlie. Algernon has also been a companion to Charlie, as he escaped the conference with him, and Charlie has spent a lot of time studying him. All these things together tie Algernon close to Charlie, and make Algernon and integral part of Charlie's life.
