Question

Charlie had a rabbit's foot, his lucky penny and a horseshoe when he went for the operation. He's always talking about luck.
Do you believe all these are actually giving Charlie good luck?

  1. Rather than actually giving Charlie luck, I think that the objects are giving him the illusion of luck. I think that this gives Charlie more confidence, and overall makes him feel more at ease. Charlie is unaware that they probably aren't helping that much, but i think when you feel more confident about something, it will be easier.

  2. I think Charlie's lucky objects give him a sense of luck and confidence. Although they don't actually do any supernatural occurance, the objects trigger a sense of confidence and safety in Charlie's mind, probably due to previous instances in which the objects were around when something notable and positive happened in Charlie's life in the proximity of the objects. This is the same situation as, say, a child with their lucky penny, which gives them a sense of security and luck. All in all, these objects instigate a part of the mind in Charlie that causes him to be happier and provides a sense of security, and although he is unaware of the fact that they aren't helping him, it makes him more confident and at ease.

  3. I think that these objects are more to make Charlie feel better than he is. Some people do believe that these objects work and personaly i don't. If these things make him feel better he can carry them on him. That is my thought on the matter.

  4. I think that these objects are just objects that he has to make himself feel better in life since he was dealt some bad cards with his mental disability. I sort of believe in lucky objects like pennies that are heads up when you find them but other than that i don't believe in luck.

  5. I think that all these things give Charlie a false sense of security, that he thinks that they are what keep him safe and help him through the surgery, but I think that he is putting his trust in the wrong things. The confidence and trust he gets from believing in those things may help him but the things themselves really do nothing for him.
