I think Charlie was scared to tell Matt who he was because he felt that Matt would hate him. I think he also may have thought that Matt forgot that he had a son. If I were Charlie I would have told him who I was because I think Matt was way more supportive than Rose and he would be proud. Matt would be so impressed by Charlie's achievement.
I think that yes, Charlie did get scared. I think that he was nervous for whether Matt wouldn't believe him, or maybe Matt would turn on him. To Charlie, it must have been a huge let down that Matt didn't recognize him even as he was cutting Charlie's hair. If it were me I would have told Matt who I was and be done with it. Charlie just got cold feet though.
When Charlie went into the barber shop he didn't tell Matt because he didn't think Matt would recognize him because he isn't the same person as before, he changed so much. Charlie didn't bother telling Matt because I think that he really didn't want Matt in his life again and if he told him who he was that might happen again. So yes, i think that Charlie was scared to tell Matt because he didn't want his life to go back to the way it was before. Zachary Roach
